Silly Lillies

Silly Lillies and Serious Observations
My artistic practice revolves around the mediums of printmaking, ceramics, drawing, and painting. I am experimenting with various techniques and approaches, and often work in multiple layers in my art.
In the series "Silly Lillies," I have drawn inspiration from Maria Sibylla Merian's etchings from the 17th century. For a long time I have been fascinated by Merians work and her remarkable journey to Surinam ( 1699-1701) , where she studied insects and their host plants. She lived in a time when people believed that insects simply emerged from the mud and were more the work of the devil than creations of God.
For me it is also a tribute to the beauty of nature and the crucial role insects play in the ecosystems.

Graphic Work

A central part of my artistic practice is devoted to printmaking, especially collagraphy. In this medium, I work freely and intuitively, often drawing inspiration from the botanical etchings of Maria Sibylla Merian from the early 1700s. Rather than replicating her work, I use it as a starting point — a visual score I can jam over, reinterpret, and respond to in my own way.
